Science backed benefits of Lion's mane:
-
Cognitive and Nerve Health Support
Lion’s Mane contains compounds like hericenones and erinacines, which can stimulate nerve growth factor (NGF) synthesis, crucial for brain health. Studies have shown that Lion's Mane may help improve mild cognitive impairment and support nerve regeneration, potentially benefiting memory, focus, and cognitive function (Mori et al., 2009; Kawagishi et al., 2008). -
Potential Neuroprotective Effects
Research suggests that Lion's Mane may protect against neurodegenerative diseases by reducing neuronal cell damage and promoting neurogenesis. Animal studies have shown its potential in supporting brain health by protecting against conditions like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s (Shimbo et al., 2005; Wong et al., 2021). -
Supports Mental Health and Reduces Anxiety and Depression Symptoms
A study involving post-menopausal women found that Lion’s Mane may reduce anxiety and depression symptoms, likely due to its impact on brain function and inflammation. This effect is promising for mental health support, though further studies are needed to confirm these benefits in broader populations (Nagano et al., 2010). -
Antioxidant Properties
Lion’s Mane has high levels of antioxidants, which help to combat oxidative stress and may reduce inflammation throughout the body. This is beneficial for overall cellular health and may support cardiovascular health and immune function (Mizuno, 1999; Kushairi et al., 2019). -
Immune System Support
Studies show that Hericium erinaceus can enhance immune function by modulating immune cells, such as macrophages. This immune support can help the body better fight off infections and stay resilient against immune challenges (Ren et al., 2017). -
Gut Health Support
Animal studies have indicated that Lion’s Mane can reduce inflammation in the gut lining, supporting gastrointestinal health and potentially providing relief from conditions like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It has been shown to protect against stomach ulcers and improve gut health overall (Abdel-Salam et al., 2019; Watanabe et al., 1998). -
Blood Sugar Regulation
Some research suggests that Hericium erinaceus may help regulate blood sugar levels by improving insulin sensitivity and reducing blood glucose, which could be helpful for those managing diabetes or pre-diabetes (Lai et al., 2013).
When to Take Lion's Mane:
Lion's Mane can be incorporated into your daily routine for maximum benefit. Consistency is key. Take it in the morning to boost mental clarity, focus, and REM sleep and dream recall in the evening prior to bedtime. Many prefer to start their day with Lion's Mane combined with Chaga for a brain boost and energizing start.
